Are You Ready for Retirement?

At Avisen, we help you make the most of your financial savings and investments so when it is time to retire, you can live the life you deserve. Together with our experienced team of investment managers and financial planners, we help build your comprehensive retirement plan.

It all starts with a simple conversation. Start yours today.

 Your Money. Your Unique Journey.

Working Professionals and Business Owners

Working professionals and business owners have specific needs. Whether building your career or running a business, it leaves little time to plan for your financial future. But this takes focus and experience.  We're here to help you make sound financial decisions for yourself and/or your business.

Pre-Retirees and Retirees

Comprehensive retirement planning requires a deeper look into all the areas of your finances, so you can make the important decisions with confidence. We’ll help you work through them all. By bringing each issue into clear view and creating manageable action steps, we’ll address all the aspects of your retirement planning together.

Multi-Generational Families

We understand the critical importance of family and and planning for future generations. Working together, we always bring attention back to your family. We start by getting to know your family structure and dynamics, so everyone has a voice. We conduct a deep discovery on your goals, as well as the objectives for your children, grandchildren and dependents. We help guide you through life events, setting milestones, and letting you know where you stand. You gain the ability to ask questions and focus the direction on where you need to go.

Female Investors

In a world where women live longer, earn less and take more time off to care for others – we believe it's vitally important for women to take charge of their financial life in a way that addresses their unique needs.

Endowments and Foundations

Donors invest in your organization because they believe in your mission. Your investment portfolio can reflect that mission too.  It is vitally important to us that we understand the soul of your organization. We are not seeking to place you in a “model” portfolio. We will build a portfolio specific to your organization. Whether you’re focused on prioritizing environmental, social and corporate governance best practices, supporting a specific organization, or avoiding certain industries, we can create a well-diversified portfolio specific to you. We would be happy to show you what a custom portfolio might look like.

In 1986 she secured a position with Shearson Lehman Brothers in La Jolla, CA, and developed a passion for the markets. Mrs. Becker earned a B.A. Degree from Arizona State University and currently holds Series 7, 63, and 65 licenses, as well as Life, Health and Long Term Care licenses in California (CA #0A41188) and Nevada.  She believes her greatest strengths in this profession are the desire and ability to build strong long-term relationships. Ken Brown

Chief Executive Officer & Sr. Investment Manager
Read Bio

Ken is CEO, Sr. Investment Manager, and Co-Founder of Avisen Wealth Management and Avisen Advisors.

With forty-plus years of experience in the financial services industry, Ken’s range of experiences have taken him from newly minted stockbroker at Kidder Peabody in the 1980’s to fixed income coordinator while at Shearson Lehman Brothers, later co-founding a technology hedge fund where he headed up the research effort. Each experience built on the last, giving him a unique, broad-based perspective.

The second half of his career has been spent at Avisen where he quietly but effectively guides an eclectic group of dedicated, experienced, and talented portfolio managers and support staff while also managing select client assets along with partner Michelle Kessel-Harbart. The second part is Ken’s passion as he is a connect-the-dots person and enjoys the back-and-forth flow of ideas.

Several key tenets have carried on throughout his career:

  • A dedication to personalized client service.
  • Independent thinking and intellectual curiosity.
  • A research-intensive process with an abiding, long-term interest in technology, the sciences and the intersection of the environment, technology and biology.  His work day doesn’t end when he leaves the office as he often spends hours at home pouring over research papers or participating in company-specific conference calls.
  • Maintaining a productive, intellectually stimulating, technology-driven work environment.
  • Taking responsibility and accountability.

Ken and his wife, Athena, are travelers in the broadest sense of the word. Together, they climbed through the temples at Angkor Wat and walked the backstreets of Jodhpur while meeting writers, artists, business associates, dignitaries, scholars, and the man or woman on the street.

To quote Athena,” there is no information more credible or even more applicable than that which you absorb through first-hand experience. In order to more fully understand the world we live in, we must walk amongst them with heightened observation.”

Aligning Your Wealth, Passions, and Purpose

Wealth Management isn’t only the management of your investments. Investment Management is ONE link in a chain of considerations when evaluating your financial goals.  We will talk together about how each component of your financial picture impacts the other. Then advise how to grow, designate, and most importantly protect your wealth.

Investment Solutions

Successful active management is not easy; it requires dedication, independent thought and a long-term perspective. These attributes enable us to focus on what will best suit you and your financial goals. Under the guidance of one of our experienced investment managers, you will gain clarity on the important questions that will guide your decisions pre- and post-retirement.

More Solutions

  Social Security

Choosing when you begin your Social Security benefit may be the most important decision you will make in retirement!

It will impact the amount of lifetime income you receive, the amount of taxes you pay, and how you spend down your other assets. Most people elect to receive benefits early because they are afraid to spend from their investment assets early on.  However, it is important to understand, that by waiting will require smaller withdrawals later in retirement!  This means that your investment assets most likely will last longer due to the higher benefit amount provided over your lifetime.  Also, by waiting to claim later, will provide the surviving spouse a higher benefit amount for their remaining lifetime. We help you determine your optimal claiming strategies for your specific situation.

  Tax Strategy

“In America, there are two tax systems: one for the informed and one for the uninformed. Both are legal.” – Judge Learned Hand

The fact is that there can be ways to control taxes and to plan in advance to create tax-smart withdrawal strategies.  Determining where you hold assets, and which accounts you draw from, can make a difference in the tax efficiency of your retirement income. We analyze your tax return on an annual basis to look for ways to maximize your income to keep more in your pocket. -  What strategies can I use to save on taxes? - How and when do I draw from my accounts to minimize taxes? - Are my investment types located in the correct account type? - Should I do Roth conversions before RMD’s begin?- Are there ways to fund any charitable giving while reducing taxes?

 Estate and Legacy Planning

Estate planning is a process to help you manage and preserve your assets while you are

alive, and to conserve and control their distribution after your death according to your goals and objectives

  •   How do I know I have the right estate plan documents in place?
  •    How do I plan for the people and causes that are important to me?
  •    If I became incapacitated could someone take care of my financial responsibilities
  •    What will my survivors need to know?
  •    Are my health care wishes properly documented
